I had a comment posted recently about an article. It deserves a bit of attention as it came from a pole fitness instructors. The statement spoke of the right way to do pole dancing. This is an interesting topic to me, as my loyal readers know, I have so recently discovered that there is a dramatic difference in instruction between studios. So let me investigate the idea of what "right" seems to mean to me:
It is essential that your pole-dancing instructor understands 3 important things:

• How to break down complex moves into learn able chunks
• How to encourage a safe learning environment ( never forget pole dancing is a physical sport involving momentum...and the forces of gravity which is formula for injury)
• How to watch students and offer instruction that will get them back on track to build on their skills .
This may seem to be elementary, but next time you are in a class - any fitness class -test how your fitness instructor measures up. Not all are created equal or with the finesse needed to meld together these 3.
But this can't be it....So what is RIGHT instruction:I feel that it needs a few more components:
And here is where the finesse of the instructing method, and the atmosphere of the studio play a vital part in the success of pole dancing instruction for a STUDENT LIKE ME.

• Pole dancing can allow for creative expression if that space is left in a class to use what you have learned. The experience is very fulfilling.
• The instructor that can verbalize, and help you visualize a mood or a setting can help you to bring the raw movements into something more your own.
• The instructor that makes it fun and dynamic by introducing movements, or finishes the technique in a way that helps you feel polished.
• The feeling of community drawn from the women who choose to attend this place should allow a atmosphere where helping each other learn is encouraged. Especially important when a move just isn't coming together.
• The instruction that lets you have that moment of..."yes I've got it " and the instructor that shares your enthusiasm for that triumph in your personal achievements.
• Your personal goals are being met. Those goals are private. And I could write an entire article on what those goals might be. You see we all have slightly different reasons for being here. The instruction that allows you to purse your goals without having you state what they are is a real gem.

So what am I missing? What else makes instruction the RIGHT way.

This stated, and here is my opinion and my clarification to all that read this past article, and especially to the graceful Alena Downs, who I am honored takes the time to read my bog, and cares enough to comment. I may be learning pole dancing a-new at the Tantra studio, but it is a joyful learning, and I am fascinated to approach the new instruction style, and to witness pole dancing with refreshed eyes.
I am facinated that the transition is allowing me to see the socialoigy of pole dancing in such new ways. I still love it, I hope I always will.

Glad you're approaching Tantra with an open mind Steph! You may find that awkward different will turn in to great different as you get to know more of their girls and become comfy in their studio. Best of luck!
